We here at Elk Grove Toyota are pretty big fans of models like the 2012 Toyota Camry, 2011 Toyota Prius, and 2012 Toyota Tacoma, as a drivers in the greater Elk Grove area. But, are you familiar with the the Toyota Eitios or Etios Liva?
If you haven't heard of either of these models, it's because they're not produced or sold here in the United States. Rather, they've two of the hottest-selling models in India, offered by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM). The two models have been produced at the company's Bidadi plant outside Bangalore since 1999, and now the Japanese automaker's Indian subsidiary is preparing to export the Etios lineup to the South African market.
In a recent statement, Toyota said, "The export model of Etios will be built on the same platform as Etios and Etios Liva, manufactured and sold in India."1 This, of course, means that Toyota will have to invest in upgrading the plant's current production capacity from 160,000 units per year to 310,000. One slight change that Toyota did concede to involves making a few adjustments in order to adhere to local regulations in the region.
"We are convinced that the Etios will be successful in delivering Toyota's promise of quality in South Africa," TKM's Managing Director Hiroshi Nakagawa said.2
